General Info for Acting Up Auditions
Who Can Audition?
Our productions typically allow for actors/singers/dancers ages 5-18 years old. You do not need to live in Mason, Ohio, to audition.
Specific audition information for our Spring '10 production, Disney's Mulan Jr. will be posted here after we wrap up our Fall '09 produciton, Disney's High School Musical.
What do I Need to Bring to the Audition?
- Audition Form. A completed audition form (forms also available at auditions).
- Resume. If your previous experience doesn't fit on the audition form, please also provide a resume (click for an example resume). Do not be discouraged if you don't have that much experience. In the past, we have cast all ranges of prior experience in principal roles as well as ensemble.
- Photo. Please note, this will not be returned. Providing a photo is critical as we literally typically get well over 100 auditioners (don't let that number discourage you), and we need to easily put a name with a face. Consequently, you will be at a disadvantage if you don't provide a recent, recognizable photo. This does not need to be a fancy head shot. A school picture or digital camera shot taken and printed out merely an hour before you head out for your audition is fine.
- Monologue. A prepared monologue of 1-2 minutes long. (Note, you will be cut off mid-monologue if you are longer than 1-2 minutes. We won't be happy and you won't be happy with this.)
- Song. Come prepared to sing 32 bars of a song (preferably not from Disney's High School Musical). (Note, you will be cut off mid-song if you are longer than 32 bars. We won't be happy and you won't be happy with this.)
- Song Music. If you cannot think of a song, sing "Happy Birthday." The song may be accompanied by pre-recorded music or may be sung accapella. If you bring pre-recorded music, please bring it on CD media. Your pre-recorded music should not contain vocals (it's very difficult to judge your voice when you are singing over someone else's, particularly a professional singer's, vocals). To keep auditions moving along, it will be very helpful if your recording started exactly where you plan to begin singing. PLEASE NOTE: we will not have an accompanist available at auditions.
What Should I Wear to Auditions?
Wear something comfortable that you can dance in.
