Our Second Production
Music Theater International's Honk! Jr. was Acting Up's second production. Four performances were presented over June 9 through 11, 2006 at the Mason Middle School Auditorium.
Award Winning
Acting Up's production of Honk! Jr. received 20 Orchid Nominations and three Orchid Awards.
The Ugly Duckling Gets a Make-over
The "Jr." version is based on the Olivier award winning production of Honk! (The Olivier awards are the British equivalent to the American Tony® awards).
Don't be mislead by the cute logo and the original fairy tale on which the play is based. Honk! Jr. is not merely for young audiences, but rather plays on many levels. Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale of The Ugly Duckling has been transformed into a sophisticated comedy, full of bright, original, and snappy musical theater. Although based on Andersen's fairy tale, there won't be an animal costume in sight. The tuneful romp features bright wordplay and hilarious insights into parenting. Honk! Jr. reminds us that being "different" isn't necessarily bad...although it isn't always easy! Honk! Jr. is a production the entire family can enjoy...even the teens!
Honk! Jr. tells the story of Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by Cat, Ugly must find his way, while his loving mother, Ida, searches for him. Along his journey, he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but he also finds love and acceptance. Honk! Jr., with all of its wonderful humor, charm and message of tolerance, is an exceptional show for audiences of all ages.
