We were very fortunate to have the following talented people volunteer their efforts for our Spring 2007 production, Once On This Island. By clicking on one of the following names, you will be directed further down the page for more information on that individual.

Producer - Laura Peebles
Laura has a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Illinois and is the mom of Ally and Ian. She was the Associate Producer for Acting Up's Honk! Jr. and The Wizard of Oz, and Co-Producer for Grease.  Laura has always had a love of musical theater and thinks that working with such talented kids is the coolest.  She thanks her wonderful husband Brent for his patience while she manages the schedules of 63 other kids.

Director / Choreographer - Arlene Borock
Arlene has taught Drama, English, Public Speaking and Journalism for 18 years at Mason High School. She has directed over 30 plays and musicals (as well as choreographed a number of these). She has been a part of ACT-Cincinnati since 1989; acting, directing, adjudicating and working backstage for many area community theatre groups, as well as sitting on the ACT Board. Arlene has received an Orchid Award for Directing Drama Workshop's 2004 production of Epic Proportions; and an Orchid Award for Co-Directing and Co-Choreographing Landen-Deerfield's 1995 Production of Gypsy. Arlene has studied Choreography, Dance and Theatre for over 20 years. Most recently, Arlene directed Acting Up's wildly successful 2005 production of The Wizard of Oz and choreographed Acting Up’s 2006 show, Grease.

Assistant Director - Dan Docherty
Dan has a BA from Miami University and an MBA from Xavier University. He now serves as Vice-President of Sales for Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals. Dan has been active in community theater for the past two years and recently performed as "Daddy Warbucks" in the Regional Theater production of Annie. He has also played "Joseph" in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and "Frank Butler" in Annie Get Your Gun at Loveland Stage Company. Dan worked in a cameo role ("Grown-up Eugene") for Acting Up's production of Grease; and has enjoyed watching his daughter in both Acting Up productions of Honk! Jr. and Grease. Dan has spent the last decade singing and leading worship in West Chester and now serves as Worship Leader at Water’s Edge – a new United Methodist Church in Mason.

Assistant Choreographer - Megan Kelley
Megan has been dancing for the past 10 years and teaching dance classes at Just For Kicks Dance Academy (JFK) for 4 years. She has also assisted in teaching 3 different competition level teams at JFK. Megan recently appeared as "Cha-Cha" in Acting Up's Grease; and was an Ensemble member of Acting Up's the Wizard of Oz. She was also involved in the choreography of both productions. Megan is a Sophomore at Mason High School and spends her free time...dancing!

Vocal Director - Nick Washington
Nick is proud to make his debut with Acting Up as Vocal Director for Once On This Island .  He is a graduate of Xavier University and is a fifth grade teacher here in Mason.  In the last 3 years, Nick has enjoyed getting back into the theater scene in various productions including Ragtime, Annie Get your Gun, and Joseph.  He has been minister of music for Israel Baptist Missionary Church for 7 years.  Nick has taught piano lessons and has his own business, Washington Enterprises, playing keyboards at weddings and special events.  He also coaches the Mason Twirling Comets and will be pursuing a graduate degree in administration this summer at the University of Cincinnati.  Nick has enjoyed doing children’s theater from the classroom to the community.

Stage Manager - Becca Johnson
Becca has a BA in Sociology from the University of Cincinnati, which is absolutely no use in dealing with 40-100 children backstage. However, being a home schooling mother of 4 is great for learning to manage chaos. Becca has produced and directed yearly Christmas and Easter Musical productions for the past ten years at Faith Church in Milford, Ohio. Becca was the stage manager for Acting Up's Grease, Honk! Jr. and The Wizard of Oz. She also directed an original Musical, More Than a Story.

Technical Director - Dan Sheeran
Dan has helped build sets for Acting Up's productions of Honk! Jr. and Grease. He has been the Technical Director for several Mason Community Player's (MCP) productions and Executive Producer for MCP's production of Cole. Dan has appeared on stage in MCP's Hello Dolly, 42nd Street, Stalig 17, The Sound of Music, and Fiddler on the Roof; as well as the JB Miller Premier Production of The Disappearance of Elizabeth Hutchinson. Dan has received Orchid nominations for set construction for MCP's Grand Night for Singing and The Second Time Around. Dan was pleased to join the Acting Up board this year and thanks them for allowing his family to spend time together doing something they enjoy.

Lighting Designer - Josh Branch
Josh has been part of lighting design for multiple community and school productions including Acting Up’s Grease and Honk! Jr., as well as Theatre Xavier’s production of Les Miserables. He also does sound design, costume design and set construction. Josh will be a sophomore at St. Xavier High School in the 2006-2007 school year, but during his free time you can normally find him out on his bike or in the theater working on another show.

Sound Engineers -

Todd Hinners
Todd started working in sound repairing stereos as a co-op job in high school. He went on to work in the sound department at Kings Island and worked with many nightclubs, churches and theaters maintaining various sound systems. In the early 1990's Todd was a stage manager for the City of Cincinnati Department of Recreation working at various festivals including Tall Stacks and Taste of Cincinnati. After a 15-year stint owning several computer ventures, Todd now works as Director of Media Technologies at Hope Church of Mason and was the Production Manager for the 2006 Hope of Christmas.

Scott Meyer

[Insert name here] is a talented, energetic and incredibly busy individual. In fact, [insert name here] is so busy, that the Acting Up elves have taken it upon themselves to draft a bio, until [insert name here] has an opportunity to provide one. [Insert name here] breathes and eats on a daily basis, and is believed to have at least a passing interest in community theater. During [insert name here]'s free time, you can typically find him/her doing something other than drafting his/her bio.

Costume Designers -

Becky Corstanje.

Becky is an RN and has an MS in Administration. Becky has produced Acting Up's Grease (co-produced with Laura Peebles), Honk! Jr. and The Wizard of Oz. In the past, Becky has been responsible for managing medical departments and multi-million dollar budgets. Becky has been a supporter of community theater for years. She has been a make-up technician for several Children's Theater of Mason productions. In 2005, Becky won an Orchid Award for Excellence in Make-Up and Hair for the Lebanon Theatre Company's production of The Octette Bridge Club.

She has made costumes for Acting Up's Grease and The Wizard of Oz; as well as for The Childrens Theatre of Mason's Charlotte's Web ("Wilbur" and "Uncle") and The Twelve Dancing Princesses (the "Minstrals"). Linda has a BS from Virginia Tech in Marketing Education. Who knew that Virginia tech was a birthing ground for theater costume designers?

Production Artist - Heidi Moody
Heidi has a BA in Graphic Design from Samford University. Heidi was responsible for transforming the artwork from Bob Fritsch's set design miniatures to a life size set, for Acting Up's productions of Honk! Jr. and The Wizard of Oz. She is also the creator of the imaginative logo for Acting Up's productions of Grease, Honk! Jr. and The Wizard of Oz. She has worked many years as a 2D/3D computer animation artist, and also enjoys painting large murals on any blank wall she can find.

Orchestration - Maestro Benjamin Price and the Ohio Metropolitan Theatrical Orchestra
The Ohio Metropolitan Theatre Orchestra (OMTO), under the guidance of Maestro Benjamin Price, provided the wonderful live music for Acting Up's production of Honk! Jr. and The Wizard of Oz. Several members of the OMTO also made up the “Pit Crew” musical accompaniment for Grease. The OMTO is Southwest Ohio’s premier Theater Orchestra featuring music of Broadway, Hollywood and the world at large. The orchestra was founded in early 2004. As well as accompanying local theatrical productions, it produces its own performances.
